Improvements planned for Blackwater main roads

Two sections of main road in the Blackwater area are due to be improved by Island Roads shortly.
The work at Sandown Road and Blackwater Hollow will be undertaken overnight between the hours of 19.30pm and 06.00am in order to keep disruption to a minimum.
The first section due to be treated is Sandown Road between Downend Road and the Wight Building Materials premises. Work here is scheduled to last five nights (and not at weekends) beginning 4 November.  The diversion is via Blackwater, Rookley, Godshill, Whiteley Bank, Apse Heath, Horringford and vice versa.
On completion of the Sandown Road work, a section of Blackwater Hollow between Blackwater junction and Highwood Lane is scheduled to be resurfaced over eleven nights from 11 November, again not including weekends. The diversion is via Blackwater, Downend, Horringford, Apse Heath, Whiteley Bank, Godshill and Rookley and vice versa.
It should be noted that the programme, particularly as we approach winter, is however subject to change.
Island Roads project engineer Derek Benfield said: “These are, of course, very busy stretches of road but we hope that by carrying out work overnight and late in the year we will reduce the impact upon road users.
“We do hope that any short-term inconvenience will be offset by the improvements we will make to these sections.”
